The first report appeared on 17 May: “The reset my reset. From 97% to 1% without any usage in between.” By 6 September, users were discussing depleted balances and uncertain timing: “Anyone else sitting on 3 resets and empty while we wait for Tibo's reset to run out in tonight?” On 15 September, two separate OpenAI signals said only “resets.” On 21 September, “Codex Reset Moves Reset Time” suggested that a reset could shift the schedule. It was followed by “reset?” on 26 September.
Reports became more specific in October. On 1 October, one user asked, “Anyone else getting reset tokens that expire right after the weekly reset?” A 2 October post said, “Rest 10AM PST tomorrow.” On 3 October, another response read, “Your usage does not need a reset right now.” By 5 October, the complaint had moved to banked allowances: “What time do banked resets expire? Lost two resets.”
Other OpenAI reactions included “Thank you, Open AI for Usage Reset!”, “Pro 200 resets and ‘warm cache’ effect,” “Another day, Another reset,” “Something strange going on with usage resetting every minute,” “Limit resets ?” and “New Reset.” ChatGPT posts asked, “Annoying RESETS without being asked - is there a pattern?” and “Did anyone else's Codex limit just reset? Mine came back a few minutes ago.” The pattern is messy. Resets appear to arrive, move, repeat or expire under timing rules that users do not consistently understand.
Taking this as factual, impact is 10%. Users who depend on reset tokens or Codex usage limits face unpredictable balances, shifted reset times and banked resets that may expire soon after a weekly reset. The immediate consequence is inconvenience and lost access. These reports establish no broader change.
Watch for OpenAI to publish explicit reset schedules, expiry rules and an explanation for balances changing without usage. Consistent reports after future weekly resets would strengthen the pattern. Stable balances and timing would weaken it.
