llama.cpp performance optimization features

The thread began on 27 Aug, when ngxson opened llama.cpp pull request #27794 to add TENSOR_READ_LAZY to the model loader. On 14 Oct, ggerganov followed with pull request #30459, adding the common option --spec-draft-n-ubatch.

LocalLLaMA also surfaced related llama.cpp work: JohannesGaessler’s CUDA change to reduce MMQ stream-k overhead; AesSedai’s Mimo v2.5 model support; lnigam’s flash-attention support for DKQ=320/DV=256 with ncols2=32; John-194’s --n-cpu-ffn option; am17an’s graph_reused addition, MTP support, and CUDA/HIP GDN chunked kernel; and ggerganov’s activation rotation for better quantization. These pull requests show performance work proceeding through narrow, implementation-level changes. The work is unglamorous.

Assuming the reports are factual, the impact is 20%. llama.cpp developers and local-model operators gain additional controls for model loading and speculative-draft batching, alongside ongoing CUDA, CPU, quantization, graph-reuse, and model-support work. The immediate effect is incremental and concentrated among users tuning specific inference setups.

Watch for maintainer decisions on pull requests #27794 and #30459, followed by benchmarks showing whether either change produces measurable gains across common llama.cpp configurations.
