DDR6 delayed again?????

The five question marks in that thread title were doing editorial work when we first spotted it, and they are still doing it now. Whoever wrote it has watched this timeline slip long enough that frustration completed its full arc — through anger, through resignation, and out the other side as weary punctuation. That fatigue has real context. JEDEC ratified the DDR6 specification in early 2024, which should have set a clear runway toward commercial availability. The history of DDR transitions, however, is essentially a history of dates that looked solid until they weren't. DDR5 arrived years after its specification was finalised, and the gap between ratification and the moment you could actually buy meaningful quantities at reasonable prices was longer still. DDR6 was supposed to benefit from lessons learned. The forum thread suggests it is instead repeating them.

What has changed since we first flagged this is almost nothing — and that absence is its own data point. A single source, static, with no corroboration after several days, either means the rumour is hollow or that people with real knowledge are staying quiet. Neither interpretation is comforting.

If confirmed, here is what this means. The implications fan out differently depending on where you sit in the stack. For consumer hardware, another slip is annoying but manageable — DDR5 still has performance headroom that platform designers have not fully exploited. For AI infrastructure, the calculation is sharper. Training and inference workloads are genuinely memory-bandwidth constrained, and DDR6's theoretical bandwidth improvements over DDR5 were already being pencilled into roadmaps by system architects trying to reduce dependence on HBM. Push DDR6 back far enough and those architects revisit their assumptions, which means either accepting bottlenecks or paying the HBM premium longer than planned. The second-order effect lands on the mid-tier AI accelerator market — the segment trying to compete on price-to-performance without HBM. A delayed DDR6 narrows their window.

Watch for any update to JEDEC's published timelines, or for a major DRAM manufacturer — Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron — to quietly revise product roadmap language at an upcoming investor day. Silence from all three would itself be a signal worth noting.
