Search Engine Journal reported that Google began rolling out its March 2026 spam update. Search Engine Roundtable later reported the June 2026 spam update and search-ranking volatility around June 6. Semrush Blog reported that Google completed the June rollout.
On August 18, Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google had released its August 2026 spam update. The publication later said the rollout had finished.
The cycle resumed on September 24, when Search Engine Roundtable reported another spam update. Semrush Blog also covered its release, and Search Engine Journal said Google was rolling it out globally. Search Engine Roundtable reported a “big weekend impact” on September 28. On October 1, it said a second phase had hit on September 30. Its Search News Buzz video recap covered the update’s impact alongside reports about Google paying little for content and Google feeling “sad & terrible.” Search volatility rarely respects a tidy release calendar, and the coverage was similarly untidy.
Assuming the reports are factual, impact is 0%. SEO teams and site owners monitoring Google rankings are the directly affected audience. The reported changes consist of successive spam-update rollouts and periods of ranking volatility. This assessment records no wider impact from the event.
Watch for Google’s rollout and completion notices, along with further ranking data clarifying whether the September 30 movement was a distinct second phase. Additional reporting beyond the current sources would also change the reliability picture.
